What is a pictionary word generator?
A Pictionary word generator replaces the card deck in the drawing game: it gives the artist a random word or phrase to draw while their team guesses against the clock. Magic Random's generator sorts more than 1,500 prompts into categories and three difficulty levels, so the same tool works for a kids' party (cat, pizza, kite), a family Christmas (tangled Christmas lights) or an adults' night (procrastination, elephant in the room).
It also runs the game: a 30 to 120 second timer, a Hide button for passing the phone, two-team scoring, and a shuffled deck so nothing repeats.

Frequently asked questions
How does the Pictionary word generator work?
Pick a preset (Classic, Kids, Adults, Funny, Christmas, Halloween or Hard) or tick your own categories and difficulty, then press Draw a card. The word appears big enough for the artist to read from a phone. Use Hide while you pass the phone, Next word for a new card, and the timer for the round. Cards don't repeat until the whole deck has been used.
How many Pictionary words are there?
More than 1,500: about 600 hand-picked prompts across 16 categories (animals, objects, food, places, actions, emotions, sports, jobs, movies, famous characters, Christmas, Halloween, funny scenes, idioms and hard abstract ideas) plus 1,100 drawable nouns from our 6,000-word English list.
Are there easy Pictionary words for kids?
Yes. The Kids preset uses Easy difficulty with animals, objects, food and actions: cat, pizza, kite, building a snowman. Easy words are common, concrete things a 6-year-old can draw and guess.
Are there hard Pictionary words for adults?
Yes. The Adults and Hard presets draw from abstract ideas (gravity, procrastination, déjà vu), idioms (elephant in the room), awkward situations (stuck in an elevator) and funny scenes. Everything stays family-friendly, so the adult list is about difficulty and humour, not crude content.
Is there a Christmas or Halloween Pictionary list?
Yes. Christmas has 40 prompts from candy cane to tangled Christmas lights; Halloween has 30 from pumpkin to bobbing for apples. Both work at all three difficulty levels, so one list serves the kids' table and the grown-ups.
Does the generator have a timer?
Yes. Choose 30, 60, 90 or 120 seconds and press Start. The countdown shows under the word and announces Time's up. Official Pictionary uses a one-minute sand timer, so 60 seconds is the default.
Can I keep score?
Tick Keep score for two teams. Each team gets a Got it button that adds a point, draws the next card and passes the turn. Reset score starts a new game.
How do you play Pictionary with this generator?
Split into two teams. The artist from Team 1 draws a card, starts the timer and draws the word on paper or a whiteboard without letters, numbers or speaking. If their team guesses before time runs out, press Got it. Then Team 2 takes a turn. First to an agreed score wins. Use Hide when passing the phone so nobody peeks.
Do the words repeat?
Not until the deck is exhausted. The generator shuffles every word in your chosen categories into a deck and deals from the top, so a long game night doesn't see the same word twice.
Can I use this for charades or other drawing games?
Yes. The same prompts suit Draw Something, Telestrations-style games and quick-draw warm-ups. For acting rather than drawing, use the charades generator, which adds movies, songs, books and TV shows.
Is the Pictionary word generator free?
Yes. No app to install, no account, no limits. It runs in your browser on any phone, tablet or laptop.
