What is a random letter generator?
A random letter generator is an online tool that picks one or more letters from the alphabet at random, giving every letter an equal chance. It replaces drawing tiles from a bag or spinning a wheel. On Magic Random you can choose how many letters to generate (1 to 50), limit the range (for example A to G), avoid repeats, pick uppercase or lowercase, and mix in numbers 0 to 9.
With the full A to Z range, each letter has a 1 in 26 chance (about 3.8%). With numbers included the pool grows to 36 characters, so each has a 1 in 36 chance.

Frequently asked questions
How do I pick a random letter from A to Z?
Leave the range at A to Z, keep the count at 1 and press Generate. The tool shows one random letter of the alphabet, chosen with equal probability from all 26 letters. Press Generate again for a new letter.
Can I generate random letters with no repeats?
Yes. Tick “No repeats” and each letter in the result will be different. With the full alphabet you can draw up to 26 unique letters; with numbers included, up to 36 unique characters.
Can I generate 5 random letters at once?
Yes. Choose the “5 letters” preset or set “How many letters” to 5. You can generate up to 50 letters in one click, and copy them with the Copy button.
How do I generate a random letter from A to G, or any custom range?
Use the From and To dropdowns. Set From to A and To to G, for example, and only letters in that range are used. This is handy for picking groups, bingo columns or limiting a game to easy letters.
Can I get random letters and numbers together?
Yes. Tick “Include numbers 0–9” or choose the “Letters + numbers” preset. The tool then draws from the 26 letters plus the digits 0 to 9, which is useful for random codes, passwords practice or alphanumeric IDs.
Is there a random letter generator wheel?
This page uses a one-click picker instead of a spinning wheel, so the result appears instantly and works on any device. The probability is the same as a fair 26-slot wheel: every letter has a 1 in 26 chance.
Does the random letter generator work for Scattergories?
Yes. Pick the Scattergories preset for a single uppercase letter from A to Z. Many players also tick “Consonants only” or exclude hard letters by narrowing the range, since standard Scattergories dice leave out Q, U, V, X, Y and Z.
Is the random letter truly random?
The tool uses the Web Crypto API in your browser (crypto.getRandomValues) with rejection sampling, so there is no modulo bias and results cannot be predicted from the time or a seed. It is the same randomness source browsers use for security keys.
Can I use uppercase and lowercase letters?
Yes. The Case option switches between UPPERCASE, lowercase and mixed case, where each letter is randomly upper or lower.
Is the random letter generator free and private?
It is completely free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you generate is sent to our servers.
